Apparently I am good looking by the Thai standard of beauty (Yay!)

This is the Thai version of Twilight. I heard the actors are super popular in Thailand now and they present the standard of beauty there.

I went to Bangkok for four days with my aunt and uncle just earlier this week and man, I loved that city! I have been there a couple times and the last time was just a year ago. Immediately after I came back each time, I couldn’t wait to google “how to move to Thailand”.

The food is one thing for sure. All my friends know I am not a fan of Western food, just too much beef and pork and not enough spice. I am not a fancy eater at all. I can happily eat next to a dusty road with flies around me. The other thing that makes me feel really good about Thailand (and myself) is that everywhere I went, I was checked out by guys (trust me I wasn’t hallucinating! I know when guys are checking me out!!).

Since I wanna stay anonymous, I can only describe how I look. I know for a fact that I am not considered the classic Asian beauty in the eyes of a Westerner. You know what, us real Asians always think Westerners have really bad tastes when it comes to judging Asian women. I don’t have the small pointy eyes and tanned skin which white people find exotic. But I don’t exactly have the dolly plastic look that Asians crave cuz I’m always criticized for having a face that is “too big” (exact wording).

I do take good care of my appearance which includes dying and trimming my hair once every two months and spending at least 45 mins to get ready every morning. I also work out regularly so I’m in pretty good shape. Anyway, I rate myself a 7-8 out of ten (ok…only post makeup) by the HK standard depending whether you are into taller girls.

So back to Thailand, apparently like the Chinese, they think fair skin= beauty and dark skin = ugly. This may confuse white people because you have white girls buying self tanners from CVS, something that I have never seen in a HK Watson’s (a pharmacy). Just think of Beyonce and how freaking white she looks now and you’d understand. People just want something they don’t have.

Seriously Westerns, you need to understand not all Asians look the same. In terms of skin color, Japanese and Koreans are like Scandinavians, Chinese are like central Europeans, and Thai and Filipinos are like Spanish. The Thai people are obsessed with fair skin. I noticed most of their celebrities look nothing like the regular, darker Thai people you see on the street. Many of celebrities have some European blood in them. Since the everyday people are under the sun so much, it is impossible to look that way.

It has happened more than once to me. Random Thai women would come up to me and say to me in either very broken English or body language that they though I was pretty. One time a middle-aged masseur put her arm next to mine and pointed at my skin saying “See! So white! Me no!”

Then it came my last visit, the masseur for my uncle said something to her colleague after our massage session and the colleague translated it to me, “She thinks you are very slender and very beautiful.” I don’t care if they were just fishing for better tip, but I think they totally deserved the 100 Baht for their blatant honesty.

So, I feel like if I reach 30 and am still single, I can always try my luck in Thailand.
