Formatting an ebook is a challenge in its own right

Just as I thought I was done with major revisions of my novel, I realized formatting is a b—h!!!! No wonder there are people getting paid to do it! That, of course, is out of question for an amateur novelist like me who can barely pay my $1,000 copyediting fee. I spent hours formatting and reformatting the Pages document and exporting it to ePub to test it on my iBooks app. It took me hours to get it to look semi-readable and not completely unprofessional. I will have to perfect it once the manuscript is finalized. And I can only image the torturing formatting process for the CreateSpace hardcopy version. It’s going to be a royal pain…

Anyhow, like I’ve sad before, I can’t be any prouder. This writing + editing + publishing process feels like a self taught Self-Publishing 101.

About Nicky

Nicky English is a journalist, an educator, a podcaster, a couch potato, a dreamer, and a child at heart. Learning is her passion, so is the English language, which she believes is the tool to unlock the door of knowledge. Born in Hong Kong, she received intensive writing training at The University of Iowa, where she double-majored in journalism and political science. Apart from the Hawkeye State, she’s lived in Chicago and Philadelphia. When she was a guest student at Georgetown University, she fell in love with Washington, D.C. She also has a Master of Arts in Communication. A little side note—she cannot imagine a world without her Mac and iDevices. Like many crazy ones, she hopes to change the world one day at a time.
